Sterbak is a Montreal artist who integrates objects, film and video into her installations. She is perhaps best known in Canada for her work entitled Vanitas: Flesh Dress for an Albino Anorectic . Better known as the “meat dress,” the piece consisted of 50 pounds of flank steak stitched together and hung on a plastic mannequin to rot. The meat dress sparked a lively debate across Canada about the nature and value of art when it was unveiled at the National Gallery in 1987.
